Single Review: Snoop Dogg Ft. T-Pain – “Boom”

Another day another review, this single is off of Snoop Dogg’s “Doggumentary” and it’s time to find out, whether or not this is worth the listen, and represents the album properly. Hit the jump to see what I think of this single.

So this single came out of nowhere at the time, and for me, was a huge surprise. And just a few days later, they even dropped a music video, so its pretty clear that this song should be helping Snoop get the album sales, he well deserves. I never expected this single to even come out because from what I saw, it didn’t seem like Snoop advertised this single dropping, nor did T-Pain. Then again, I could be wrong. In this review, just like “2.0 Boys,” I will be breaking down every verse, and analyzing it. Lets see how this goes.

———————————————————————————————————-

[Verse 1] Snoop Dogg: In this verse, the Doggfather drops some pretty typical lines you would expect to hear. He talks about all the money he’s got and talks about all the clubs he can get into. Even though Snoop’s lines are a bit generic and predictable, he’s a legend and doesn’t really have to prove himself. Although, we all know that the point of this track is to get on the radio, and get some airplay. It’s also the single that helps carry the album, so we’ll just cut Snoop some slack.

[Hook] T-Pain: Honestly, the way T-Pain presents his hooks are just to funny. He’s such a comedic guy, and knows what people in clubs will bump to. You can say whatever you want about Teddy, and say that auto tune sucks, but the dude is the king of auto tune and king of hooks. As usual, T-Pain brings us a very catchy hook, that is almost impossible, and I mean impossible, to get out of our heads. When I’m in school, all I hear is a robotic voice echoing in my head, going “BOOM SHACKALACKA” haha.

[Verse 2] Snoop Dogg: We get another verse from the Doggfather and he still talks about the same thing. But he makes some pretty sick punchlines when he drops a line from Teddy’s hit single “Low” when he mentions that the girl on top of him has Apple Bottom Jeans. Snoop also says that every time hes on a whole other level, he gets toned down and loses his spark. That looks almost impossible, considering we have such a banger of a single. He also raps about how every ones else’s game is whack and that hes the top Dogg (Pun intended.)

[Verse 3] Snoop Dogg: So we finally reach the last verse in the single, but this verse is important. Ever since Snoop dropped an album a couple of years back, his fans have turned on him and claimed that he has done a complete 360* and changed. In this verse, Snoop addresses those statements and tells us that nothing has changed, and that he’s still the same old Snoop. Then again, this song is a bit Hip Pop to be fairly honest, so I don’t know if I can take Snoop seriously when he drops that line. He tells us to stop worrying because no matter what, its still “Nuthin But a G Thang” and hes never gonna change. Snoop also tells the girl in the song to relax, party it up and inhale the Chronic.

———————————————————————————————————-

Overall: Snoop Dogg and T-Pain really gave us a great club banger. You can hate on this single all you want, but you know damn well that its gonna be making tons of money, no problem. Heres one problem though, and I think many people can agree with me on this: Snoop needs to get his old fans back on the boat with him, even if hes just dropping lines about smoking purple and having a good time. In my opinion, I think Snoop should experiment, and attempt to rap about real shit. I’m sure that him and Dre back in the day have a lot of stories that are untold, and if Snoop decided to rap about those good times, I’m sure his old fans would come back in a split second. Another problem would have to be how hard it was to review a song of this caliber. It’s hard to review a song that only talks about partying, smoking, drinking and getting chics because its the same generic plot. If a song is telling a story, then the lines can be broken down, and even tell a larger story. On the other side of things, T-Pain is officially the king of hooks and may be the only rapper in the game who can utilize his auto tune properly. Kanye has to much intensity on his pitch, while T-Pain has it just right. Overall, this song gets a solid 4/5 stars.
