Single Review: The Game Feat Lil Wayne – “Red Nation”
It’s time to review the first single from “The Red Album.” Does Lil Wayne fit into this song? Does The Game still have it in him to bring out singles? Find out after the jump!
It looks as if The Game isn’t messing around when he says that he’s back in the music scene, because he just dropped his first single with Lil Wayne. Now after listening to this single multiple times, I have a very mixed opinion. In some aspects I’m feeling this track and in some I’m not. Lets break down these verses individually and see what they brought to the table.
[Verse 1] The Game: We open up the song with a pretty epic sample going. The sounds of a crowd of people, joining in as they sing together. The beat to me sounds like that song you would have the players in the NBA come out to, to start off the game. It’s got somewhat of a techno vibe to it as well. Anyways, The Game opens it up by saying to rep Cincinnati, and he doesn’t want us to ask why. In his verse, he also praises Lil Wayne for letting him collab with him, by using his nickname “Lil Tune Chi.” As a metaphor for the haters and anyone whoever doubted Game, he basically tells them to back off, and that he’s not going anywhere. Nice start.
[Hook] Lil Wayne: Weezy on a hook? I’ll pass…The only thing I can possibly praise Wayne for, is that he didn’t resort to auto tune in any shape or form. However, I felt like Wayne didn’t seem like he belonged in this song. If The Game is really gonna come out again, and claim his spot as the self proclaimed “King,” I don’t think Wayne’s gonna help you with that. I’m a Wayne fan, but this just doesn’t feel like it worked. Collabs are always nice, but this just didn’t work.
[Verse 2] The Game: I liked the comparisons being made in this verse along with 2pac, J.Cole and Drake. Game says in this verse that he’s always gonna stay true to his real image, and never “Sell Out” like Drake or J.Cole. He also praises 2pac for never being that way, and dying for the right reasons. 2pac never gave in, and rapped about true real life situations. That’s why Game praises Shakur in this line. Game also says in this verse that L.A is the home of being scandalous and having debauchery. Pimps & hoes is what he says its all about and rolling papers to kick back and enjoy the high life. Lastly, he name drops Dorrough by saying that his Ferrari got an Ice Cream Paint Job..Nice.
[Verse 3] The Game: We get the last verse from The Game, and I’m expecting a heavy hitter verse. Not exactly the case. We still get the same old talk about how the haters are always on him, and how they’re never gonna stop hating. Just a tip for you upcoming rappers, possibly reading this: Don’t talk about your haters so much because it makes you look weak. This does not have to be acknowledged in every single song in the rap game. Game also talks about how he’s all over the world spreading his love through his music and will never stop. That’s why this track is called Red Nation. I guess by Red Nation, he is telling all his fans to stand up and get behind him for The Red album, because this is the fans album. At least that’s what I think.
Overall: This song is ok. I’m not gonna ride it, even if I’m a Wayne fan. I will find myself listening to it from time to time, but I think Game hyped it up way to much. His verses were good, but the hook on this joint was just to weak. Weezy seemed extremely out of place, and in my opinion, didn’t exactly help carry out the “Red Nation” theme of the song. I’m sure if your a Game fan, this will be your anthem for a long ass time. For me though, it won’t be. Overall, this song gets a 3/5 stars. If your a die hard, I’d appreciate if you can bring back constructive criticism. Regardless if you hate or love this review. j cole never sold out. still a G
That’s what Game said in his verse, not from me:)
It’s coo.. But wayne hook was not that good.. Can’t wait to hear the hole album.
Decent review, but I think you need to listen to the track again. Just for starters, you know Game is a Blood right? Hence the whole Red Nation theme. He’s telling people to Rep Cincinnatti, He’s telling you to throw your REDs cap in the air…Cincinnatti REDs…Next, why would he Diss Drake when he’s collabing with Wayne? Listen to the verse again, He says niggas would sell their soul to be like Drake or J.Cole…no disrespect in that verse. New cats want to come up and be like who’s hot right now. I love that zombie nation sample. I think the track is hot and Game was on point lyrically. Listen to it again and pay better attention to the lyrics.
Sorry, he’s not telling people to rep Cincinnatti…I should proofread my own comments! Lol
Game has improved, but Wayne half assed his verse. The song is decent, if that…
