The Game – “Purp & Patron” [REVIEW]

The Game’s “Purp & Patron” is a very interesting mixtape. The tape really has me mixed, when it comes to having an opinion. However, I will say that this isn’t The Game’s best work. I’ve seen better from him. It’s sad to, because I was really looking forward to this mixtape. Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t have any favorite songs. Considering this is a mixtape, I’m gonna keep this review short and sweet. Below are my favorite tracks, being broken down.

The Game – “Soo Woo” Ft. Lil Wayne: Now now before you guys get hot on me, let me just address one thing. I agree, Wayne’s verse really wasn’t that great. Compared to what we have seen from Carter, it just isn’t his best. Same thing for The Game. Sadly enough, it does land in my favorite tracks on this tape.

The Game – “Taylor Made” Ft. Wiz Khalifa: This is just one of those songs where you can roll out the paper, and just chill the fuck out. This song is what the Taylor Gang best reps in a good 3-4 mins. It also has a pretty good chance at being a single on the radio, but then again it’s doubtful. Wiz killed his verse.

The Game – “The Kill” : This is honestly the best song on the mixtape in my opinion. Covering La Roux’s hit single, The Game is really deep in this song, and really paints a picture inside my head. Just telling a great story, and what he’s been through the past couple years. He also talks about being out of the industry for a bit. It’s a shame most rappers don’t tell stories anymore.

The Game – “Can A Drummer Get Some” Ft. Travis Barker, Lil Wayne & Rick Ross: Considering this is gonna be on Travis’ album, I was surprised to see it appear on this tape. I’m gonna say the same thing I said the first time I heard this song, FIRE. Even Rick Ross blew me out the water. Sure he’s still talking about the money he makes, but his flow greatly improved. Also nice hook by Swizz Beatz. Great combo all together.

I’ll be honest, this mixtape really had some letdowns. Including the biggest letdown of them all: “The Ocean.” How the hell can you have a track produced by Dr Dre and have a beat like that? How can you spit like that? I was expecting such a hardcore track. Big letdown. Overall, this mixtape may not be my favorite, but it will take The Game some time to get himself back together. He’s finally found himself, and is doing his own thing. Good news for The Game is, I see a lot of potential hit singles on here.
